Diorama art is a type of art that creates a three-dimensional scene in miniature. Dioramas are often used to depict historical events, natural landscapes, or fictional worlds. They can be used to educate, entertain, or simply inspire.
There are many different types of dioramas, but they all share one common goal: to create a sense of realism and wonder. Dioramas can transport viewers to another time and place, and they can help us to understand the world around us in a new way.
For the last two weeks of May I've been experimenting with and creating AI dioramas for various residential architecture styles and themes using models similar to Monument Valley. My dioramas so far this month of May, each linked to their galleries:
ASIAN PALACES
Asian palaces are a diverse group of structures, reflecting the region's rich history and culture. They were built for a variety of purposes, including housing royalty, conducting religious ceremonies, and storing important documents.
ARABIAN PALACES
Arabian palaces are grand and luxurious structures that are often decorated with intricate patterns and designs. They are typically built with materials such as marble, sandstone, and stucco, and they often feature large courtyards, fountains, and gardens.
Arabian palaces were originally built as homes for the wealthy and powerful, but they have since become popular tourist destinations. In addition to their architectural beauty, Arabian palaces are also known for their lavish interiors. They are often decorated with intricate tapestries, carpets, and furniture, and they often feature large pools, fountains, and gardens. These palaces provide a luxurious and opulent setting for royal families and their guests.
FILIPINO HOUSES
Filipino houses are a diverse group of structures, reflecting the country's rich history and culture. In addition to traditional types Bahay Kubo, Bahay na Bato, and ancestral houses built in the Spanish colonial era, there are also a number of modern Filipino houses that have been built using a variety of materials and styles.
These houses reflect the changing needs and lifestyles of Filipino families, and they continue to evolve as the country's culture and economy develop. Raised on stilts, thatched roofs, open floor plans, verandas, and gardens are some of the common features of Filipino houses. They are designed to be comfortable and practical in the hot tropical climate, and they provide a sense of community and belonging for the families who live in them.
FILM ARCHITECTURE: PARASITE
Architecture is a powerful tool in the film Parasite to illustrate the contrast and conflict between the rich and the poor. The film uses two main settings: the semi-basement apartment of the Kim family and the modern mansion of the Park family. These two spaces represent different worlds that collide and clash throughout the story.
1. The semi-basement apartment of the Kim family is a cramped, cluttered and dark space that reflects their precarious and hopeless situation. They live below street level, but still have access to a small window that lets in some sunlight and also exposes them to the noise and dirt of the outside world. They have to deal with flooding, fumigation, pests and lack of privacy. The apartment was built on a set that copied the details of real empty towns that were set to be demolished.
2. The modern mansion of the Park family is a spacious, sleek and bright space that reflects their wealth and privilege. They live on a hill, isolated from the rest of society, with a large window that offers them a panoramic view of their garden and beyond. They have access to comfort, security, technology and art. The mansion was also built on a set that was designed by production designer Lee Ha Jun with the help of an architect. It was inspired by modern Korean architecture and minimalism.
Architecture also plays a role in creating suspense and symbolism in the film. For example, the stairs are used to show the vertical hierarchy between the classes, as well as to create tension and surprise in some scenes. The basement is used to hide secrets and reveal twists. The garden is used to contrast nature and artifice, as well as to stage a climactic showdown.
VICTORIAN HOUSES
Victorian houses are a style of architecture that was popular during the reign of Queen Victoria in the United Kingdom from 1837 to 1901. The style is characterized by its ornate decoration and asymmetrical design. Victorian houses can be found all over the world, but they are most common in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
LOG CABIN HOUSES
A log cabin is a small, rustic house made of logs. Log cabins were traditionally built by pioneers and settlers in North America, and they are still popular today as vacation homes and retirement homes. Log cabins are known for their durability, energy efficiency, and natural beauty. Log cabins offer a number of advantages over traditional stick-built homes. They are more durable, as the logs are naturally resistant to rot and decay. They are also more energy-efficient, as the logs trap heat in the winter and cool air in the summer. Additionally, log cabins have a natural beauty that is hard to match.
